Our client is looking for two Accommodation officer to join them.

Job purpose:

To ensure that an effective and comprehensive housing management service is provided to the temporary accommodation used by the Authority under the direction of the Accommodation and Support Manager.

To also provide support and assistance to private landlords who have rehoused or who are in the process of rehousing homeless or potentially homeless households in their accommodation in order to ensure that this accommodation is secured or sustained thereby contributing to the prevention of homelessness within the city.

To generally participate in the overall planning and development of the service.

Key Results Areas:

·To provide an intensive housing management service to all forms of temporary accommodation used by the Local Authority for homeless households.

·To secure and place persons for whom the Authority has a duty in to appropriate interim or temporary accommodation.

·To monitor the duration of residence in such accommodation and seek to help to secure alternative accommodation where necessary and as required.

·To ensure that all relevant charges associated with the temporary accommodation provided are paid in full, ensuring that rent arrears and other such debts are kept to a minimum.

·To assist in the evaluation and review of the policy, procedures and practices, in relation to homelessness.

·To initiate new ideas, promote solutions and help manage the Authority’s response to homelessness.

·To ensure that relevant and appropriate support services are provided to households through directly liaising with providers or through providing help, support and assistance directly as appropriate.

·To provide appropriate advice to households on their housing options either through direct contact or through signposting to relevant colleagues or partner agencies.

·To ensure that appropriate standards are maintained in line with working practices and that health and safety guidelines are maintained in all forms of temporary accommodation.

·To ensure that void levels are kept to a minimum and that accommodation is kept to the highest standard with day-to-day repairs being reported and completed as appropriate.

·To liaise with the Housing Solutions Officers in order to minimise the use of bed and breakfast accommodation.

·In accordance with legislative changes, help develop multi-agency approaches to dealing with homelessness; implement and promote protocols with relevant agencies.

·Establish, maintain and develop close liaisons with a range of social housing providers, statutory agencies and voluntary organisations to ensure the effective provision of the service.

·To contribute towards the Council’s strategy in relation to homelessness.

·To ensure efficiency and effectiveness in your work.

·To maintain accurate records, statistics, administrative and computerised systems; assist in the gathering and recording of information, as required by the post.

·Attaining agreed performance targets, and contribute to target setting.

·Answering correspondence promptly and ensuring those for whom the postholder has a responsibility, also do so.

·Being aware of cost controls and the attainment of value for money in the services we buy for ourselves and customers.

·Attending training courses as required, implement good practices learned in consultation with other Officers and Senior Officers.

·To respond to complaints and enquiries bringing all matters to a satisfactory resolution.

·Attending and contributing to office team meetings, residents’ meetings or ward meetings as required, and to follow up decisions taken.

·To deputise for the Accommodation and Support Manager/Deputy Accommodation and Support Manager where appropriate

·To carry out duties and responsibilities, where necessary, appropriate and practicable of the same grade within the Housing Needs Unit in order to ensure that a seamless and consistent service is provided to all customers.

·To contribute to and adhere to our clients financial regulations, standing Orders, policies and procedures, in particular Health and safety, Confidentiality, Equalities, Data Protection and Customer Care.

·The postholder may be required to work at any of our clients offices.
