Our client is looking to recruit an Accommodation Officer to assist in the management of temporary accommodation for people experiencing homelessness. Primarily this position works within Bed & Breakfast Accommodation and Shared Housing across the County.

Duties & responsibilities

• To assist in the preparation of temporary accommodation for homeless households to coincide with their date of homelessness.

* To assist in the management of individuals placed in Bed and Breakfast & Emergency Accommodation.

• To liaise directly with proprietors to ensure there is good communication between B&B owners and the Accommodation Team.

• To regularly liaise with all agencies working with individuals in B&B and emergency accommodation, in particular the temporary accommodation support workers, to ensure a joined up approach to placement sustainability.

• To be reactive and innovative in problem solving issues which occur with emergency accommodation.

• To arrange and perform sign up with tenants as well as ensuring all relevant paperwork and benefit claims are completed.

• Carry out weekly property/room inspections at all relevant accommodation.

• To assist in the preparation of Notice to Quits and attend Evictions when necessary.

• To assist with budgets and financial matters relating to temporary, hostel and shared accommodation using spreadsheets and financial management systems.

• To assist households with claims for housing benefit and welfare benefits prior to moving into accommodation. Monitor the progress of housing benefit claims including liaising with the Benefits Team to ensure that prompt payments are made and maintained.

• To assist with the administration of recharges to tenants and any other necessary procedures for recovery of former tenant arrears.

• To assist with maintaining relationships with private landlords and letting agencies to secure and increase the availability of good quality accommodation for applicants to access. This could include carrying out of inspections and inventories.

• To work in conjunction with the other members of the Private Rented Sector Team to ensure targets set to minimise the use of bed and breakfast accommodation are continually met.

• To assist where necessary to refer appropriate young homeless clients to the Supported Housing Projects having completed the referral form and risk assessment.

• To perform any other duties commensurate with post holders grade that are required by the Housing Manager in order to ensure the delivery of an efficient caring and responsive service.

• To keep up to date with current legislation and practice on housing and related areas including the company policies and procedures and developing the services as necessary.

• To co-ordinate referrals and joint work with other agencies to ensure appropriate advice and support is given to clients.

• To adopt a Trauma – Informed approach with clients approaching the service, and to undertake training to develop skills which complement this methodology.

• To be adaptable and willing to assist in other areas of service delivery during times of crisis or pressure. To accompany team members to accommodation placements to offer support.
