Our client, an established recycling solutions provider based in Bridgend, is looking to expand its utilities department providing services to the energy sector predominately in Solar /Wind generation around the country.
They are ideally looking for an Experienced Manager who has previously worked in this area. The successful candidate would need to have experience in estimating and quantity surveying for groundworks, drainage and construction. The role would be to Manage and take a key role in expanding this department.

Main duties:
Manage the department ensuring all company policies and procedures are carried out
To supervise and manage the costs for various contracts
To produce tender quotations for various construction/ utilities contracts, giving detailed analysis of the works required and how they are to be carried out by our relevant Site Manager
To ensure that all works are carried out to the tender requirements and the budget set out
To monitor and record any additional works to the contract via the method of day work sheets or C.V.I.’s (Confirmation of Verbal Instruction), which are to be signed by and agreed with the client and our Quantity Surveyor
To arrange and attend pre-tender site meetings with clients requiring tender quotations
To obtain competitive prices from various suppliers for all tender quotations to reduce costs for both ourselves and the client
To liaise with the Site Manager on all buying functions to ensure that the Company is obtaining the best service and value for money at all times
To arrange site meetings with subcontractors to obtain quotations for subcontracted works
To liaise with the Site Manager on the performance of Subcontractors and Suppliers
To liaise with the client at all times to keep them informed on how work is progressing and what changes to specification maybe required etc. and what the additional costs for this will be
To produce monthly valuations for construction contracts and submit them to our Accounts Department
To attend scheduled site meetings with Subcontractors or other interested parties in conjunction with the Project
To undertake necessary training as and when required, in accordance with Health & Safety regulations and Company requirements
Prepare a monthly report for Senior Management meeting.


Individual responsibilities in health, safety and environmental matters
Read, understand and implement the Health, Safety and Environmental policy, organisation and arrangements
Be aware of legislation, codes of practice, guidance notes and good working practices relevant to the work activities. Accept/request advice from the Health, Safety/Environmental manager in these matters
Prior to commencement of their contract works, ensure that all contractors are informed of the need for all their operations to be carried out in a safe and environmentally sound manner, and in accordance with Health, Safety and Environmental rules and procedures
Provide for their employees and implement, or, where necessary, agree or determine for others, safe and environmentally sound methods of working and systems which identify hazards at each place of work within their responsibility
Ensure that suitable procedures are in place for the effective control of changes to planned methods of working
Give staff and contractors under their control clear instructions as to their responsibilities to ensure correct working methods where risk of physical harm or environmental damage exists.
Identify Health, Safety and Environmental training needs and have the necessary training arranged. When arranged, release those who require training
Enforce the disciplinary procedure in relation to breaches of Health, Safety and Environmental procedure, policy or practice
Monitor the effectiveness of the Health, Safety and Environmental policy, its arrangements or rules and where inadequacies are identified; ensure that appropriate action is taken

General responsibilities
Provide support for ordering, delivery arrangements, and site requirements. Assist with Project/Site Management requirements if necessary
Cover Project Managers on site if the occasion arises

At least 3 years’ experience in quantity surveying and a Certificate of High Education in a relevant discipline are preferred.
