We have an exciting new opportunity available for a Fertility Nurse to join our client in Cardiff.

Responsibilities:

•To carry out all necessary duties required as a Fertility Nurse Specialist, particularly relating to patient care, information counselling, treatment, dispensing and administration of drugs under the clinic direction of the nominated ‘person responsible’ under the provision of the HFEA Act 1990 and its subsequent revisions.
•Report to the Lead Nurse to ensure continuity of care and to raise or discuss any issues or concerns.
•To practice in accordance with the current NMC Code of Conduct.
•To maintain patient confidentiality except in circumstances permitted by law.
•To contemporaneously ensure all offered treatment, advice, treatment cycles and outcomes are recorded (in electronic or hard copy) in line with current HFEA guidelines and requirements and LWC SOPs.
•To possess a working knowledge of their patient’s drug regimes and treatment plans.
•To be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care needs of individual patients undergoing treatments in their care.
•To provide information to all patients prior to treatment and through ongoing care in order to aid informed consent.
•To ensure access to a Fertility Counsellor as required.
•To practise evidence-based nursing, applying accepted and validated research.
•To assist with ultrasound scanning (following adequate training) and administration of drugs relevant to patient’s treatment (in line with current NMC guidelines), teaching patients to self-administer where relevant and appropriate.
•Communicate and liaise with medical staff, other JDH centres and other health care professionals (as required and permitted) to provide safe and effective treatment and care of patients.
•Always ensure patients’ safety and well-being whilst they are under their care and to ensure that no harm is done through an act of omission by the Fertility Nurse Specialist.
•To store and dispense drugs in accordance with the regulations.
•Ensure adequate stocks of supplies are held to ensure the smooth operation of patient’s treatment.
•Collection of specimens, labelling and despatching to the outside laboratory (including phlebotomy) as per current Clinic SOPs.
•To receive test results and ensure appropriate action is undertaken as per the current Clinic SOPs.
•Liaise with other JDH departments to ensure a unified approach to patient care.
•Ensure that patients are comfortable following procedures.
•To participate in a weekend and out of hours roster.

Relevant skills & experience:

•Relevant LWC forms, SOPs and information.
•To be aware of and implement the ambassadorial aspect of the post.
•Computer literate in the relevant database(s) e.g. IDEAS.
•To be aware of current HFEA Code of Practice requirements.
•Competent in Basic Life Support (BLS).
•Confidentiality requirements.
