Head of IT
£50,000 - £55,000 per annum
Monday to Friday (full-time)
The role of Head of IT is to ensure the streamlined and reliable operation of IT systems and architecture in alignment with the business objectives of the organisation. This individual will plan, coordinate, direct, and design IT-related activities of the organisation, as well as provide administrative direction and support for daily operational activities of the IT department. The role holder will work closely with decision makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organisation. This person will also define and implement IT policies, procedures, and best practices.
Lead IT operational and strategic planning to suit business strategy, including fostering innovation, planning projects, and organising and negotiating the allocation of resources.
Benchmark, analyse, report on, and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of the IT infrastructure and IT systems.
Manage financial aspects of all IT, including purchasing, budgeting, and budget review.
Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT spending and initiatives.
Develop and implement all IT policies and procedures, including those for architecture, security, disaster recovery, standards, purchasing, and service provision.
Develop requests for proposal.
Negotiate and administer vendor, outsourcer, and consultant contracts and service agreements.
Manage the deployment, integration, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of all IT systems, including network servers, company website, telephone systems, PCs, operating systems, hardware, software applications, and peripherals.
Oversee provision of end-user services, including help desk and technical support services.
Work with stakeholders to define business and systems requirements for new technology implementations.
Direct research on potential technology solutions in support of business needs.
Keep current with the latest technologies.
Ensure the creation and maintenance of all written documentation, including system and user manuals, license agreements, and documentation of modifications and upgrades.
Ensure software licensing laws are adhered to and maintain license database.
Provide secure access to the network for remote users
Ensure security and integrity of data, both internally and externally.
Scheduling of upgrades and security backups of hardware and software systems.
Crisis management of all technical hardware or software problems, ensuring business continuity.
Approve and oversee projects and project portfolio.
Practice asset management for IT hardware, software, and equipment.
Manage IT staffing, including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, development, evaluation, and disciplinary actions.
Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the organisation’s executives, department heads, and end users regarding pertinent IT activities.
Maintain, update and improve company website, monitor and report on all website activity.
Input and maintenance of all IP addresses, network accounts, access and passwords for all users.
Knowledge & Experience:
Strong technical knowledge of PC operating systems, networking, website and communication technologies and protocols.
Strong technical knowledge of current network hardware, architecture design, and standards.
Extensive application support experience with Sage 200 and SQL server database management systems.
Proficient in .Net, C# and C++ programming
Proven experience in IT infrastructure planning and development.
Excellent understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
In-depth knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
Understanding of human resource management principles, practices, and procedures.
Strong understanding of project management principles.
Strong understanding and experience of crystal reports, or other report writing software.
