We are currently recruiting on behalf of an established firm of Solicitor’s, based in Newport. They have an immediate need for a Junior Litigator.

 

Job purpose:

Job purpose:

 

  • Assist and provide a range of legal support and administration to Partners, fee earners and other legal professionals.

  • To effectively manage all aspects of cases allocated and where necessary provide support to Partners and Solicitors within the Department/Firm.

  • To act for clients in a range of matters relating to Personal Injury and manage all client work allocated in accordance with the Firm’s standards.

  • To effectively undertake all assigned tasks allocated and where necessary provide support to the wider Department and/or Firm.

  • Fast track & multi track claims including some complex / high value multi track cases.

  • Achieve agreed levels of billing and time recording

  • Ensure all financial controls procedures are followed particularly in respect of billing procedures and collection of monies.

  • Ensure that all client work relating to own files is processed correctly and expeditiously and that the client is kept regularly informed of progress and costs.

  • Updating the case management system efficiently and effectively in accordance with departmental processes and procedures.

  • Liaise with legal representatives including counsel, costs drafts persons, experts etc.

  • Follow file reviews procedures ensuring that these are dealt with promptly

  • Carry out periodic costs checks on files as requested by the fee earner

  • Undertake administration work on own files and support senior fee earners with the same

  • Ensure that support staff allocated are progressing your work in a timely manner.

  • Prepare bundles of documents for counsel and experts and trial bundles when required.

  • Attend to clients both in person and on the telephone and to provide such support in a professional and friendly manner in keeping with the firm’s standards for client care

  • Provide support to the support staff and fee earners as required

  • Greeting and dealing with “walk in” clients, to the office to take initial instructions or brief updates on their matter.

  • Maintain flexibility to attend conferences with clients which, on occasions may be outside of ‘normal working hours.’

  • Ensure the confidentiality of all the firm’s and client’s documentation and information.

  • Undertake any other duty as reasonably requested of you and within your capabilities including reception cover, post room cover and court run cover (full training provided.)

  • Perform legal and factual research – research the most valid arguments, review case facts, identify the relevant laws and ensure all other relevant information is considered in a case.

  • Summarise legal documents.

  • Check the accuracy of legal forms and documents.

  • Draft and serve legal documents.

  • Assist in the preparation of legal arguments, applications, declarations, and motions.

  • Prepare, serve and/or respond to correspondence.

  • Interact directly with clients, including taking initial instructions.

  • Proof read legal documents.

  • Attend Court to provide representation on behalf of clients and a willingness to undertake own advocacy where appropriate.

  • To undertake any other legal and/or administrative duties as may reasonably be required from time to time.

  • To achieve agreed levels of time-recording (as appropriate).

  • To undertake mandatory training or training identified as necessary to update skills or improve performance.

  • Have appropriate skills or ability to acquire and develop skills in order to utilise case management system effectively

  • To identify and initiate any cross-selling opportunities.

  • To ensure client satisfaction remains a high priority at all times and ensure appropriate client relationship management.

  • To ensure that supervision is sought prior to contact third parties outside the Firm or undertake any work outside of the scope of the role.

  • To ensure protocols are adhered to in order to protect the confidentiality of both the firm’s and clients’ documentation and information

  • To attend and, where required contribute to team meetings.

  • To undertake such administrative duties as your Employer may reasonably require from time to time.

  • Ensure telephones are covered and answered promptly and professionally at all times.
